Less-tight labor market helps Texas grow faster than U.S. during pandemic
Kumar, Anil
(2022)
Data from the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) indicate that Texas and the U.S. have more openings than people to fill to them. However, the vacancy–unemployment ratio suggests that the state’s labor markets are less tight than the nation’s. Amid widespread reports of worker shortages, Texas' not-so-constricted labor markets have helped the state outpace the nation in job growth.

Higher interest rates transform housing market, Texas real estate workforce
Dodini, Samuel; Kenney, Jeanna; Haq, Kamran; Dhillon, Isabel
(2026-01-07)
A pandemic-era period of relatively low interest rates and rising house prices drew a record number of new real estate agents to the field. Home prices have since remained high, but elevated interest rates and slowing sales have made the industry less attractive.

Digits and widgets (with reference to a wise mother, the Golden Book Encyclopedia, Winston Churchill and Hunter Lawrence)
Fisher, Richard W.
(2009)
"In the world of "superfine processes" of the Knowledge Age, digits are the new widgets. The brain is to the Knowledge Age and the mastery of digits what the engine was to the Manufacturing Age and the management of widgets. Education is the steam and the oil and the gas that propel that engine. The speed at which we move our economy forward from this point onward will depend on how well we educate our children." ; Remarks before the Austin Chamber of Commerce's 4th Annual State of Education in Austin Conference; Austin, Texas; December 8, 2009.

Mortgage Data Help Paint Foreclosure Picture
Community Development, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
(2008)
As foreclosure and delinquency rates escalate, community organizations, counseling agencies and policymakers need good-quality data to understand foreclosure patterns and mitigate foreclosure losses to individuals and communities. To that end, the Federal Reserve System has aggregated mortgage performance data, created dynamic maps and made them available to the public

The Texas industrial production index
Long, William T.; Berger, Franklin D.
(1989-11)
The Texas Industrial Production Index (TIPI) measures the output of the manufacturing, mining, and utility sectors of the Texas economy. These sectors are of special interest because of their sensitivity to business cycles and because of the size (albeit declining) of the Texas mining sector. The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has published TIPI since 1958. Revisions are implemented when new data sources are available, when existing data are revised, or when methodological improvements are devised. The most recent major TIPI revision came in the fall of 1988. ; Berger and Long examine TIPI's ...
