Creating a Vibrant, Inclusive Economy: Remarks at the Community College of Rhode Island
First, I want to highlight why I wanted to prioritize speaking at a community college like CCRI; and why community colleges, and all of you engaged with them, are so important to our economy and society. Then, I’ll talk briefly about the range of things we do at the Federal Reserve, to advance our mission. And finally, I’ll share some of the lessons I’ve learned from my own career path, in case my experiences may be helpful to you.

Training and Search on the Job
The paper studies human capital accumulation over workers? careers in an on the job search setting with heterogenous firms. In renegotiation proof employment con- tracts, more productive firms provide more training. Both general and specific training induce higher wages within jobs, and with future employers, even conditional on the future employer type. Because matches do not internalize the specific capital loss from employer changes, specific human capital can be over-accumulated, more so in low type firms.
