Notes from the Frontlines in the Small Business Finance Revolution: A Microlender’s View


Abstract: This article explores the rise of alternative and subprime business finance and the implications for Main Street business owners. Drawing on their direct experience successfully lending to thousands of low-income and minority entrepreneurs across California, the authors reflect on the opportunities and challenges presented by this small business finance revolution and share some potential product and policy solutions.
